SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks via a command line. The protocol is employed by many expert users, due to the fact that the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access could be used for a variety of things with regards to the type of Internet hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the website hosting server allows it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for virtually anything - you can install software or restart specific services including the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients which allow you to use the protocol if your computer system is using a different Operating System too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port though many providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account with us and you would like to manage your content remotely using SSH, you can receive SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not come with this feature as standard, you may add it with a few mouse clicks through the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you shall see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You can even select what password you want to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared several Help articles where you could find all of the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they are used. In addition, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to get SSH access to it with a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your package does not support this feature by default, you shall be able to add it easily via the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you'll discover the info which you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter may be updated anytime, if necessary. These login credentials are also needed if you would like to upload files through a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we provide you with. A complete list of the commands which you can perform will give you a better idea of what tasks you can perform in your account and each is accompanied by a few examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content irrespective of which VPS plans you choose when you sign up, as all of our packages offer this feature by default. You won't need to add or enable anything by hand - as soon as your website hosting server is ready and you get the Welcome e mail with the login credentials, you may connect and start working on your Internet sites or any software that you want to install and run on the server. You shall have root-level access to the VPS and because the account will be isolated from all of the other accounts inside the physical web server, you'll be able to do anything you want without any restrictions. You'll be able to install any application you need and that shall work on a Linux-based server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases efficiently.
